I lived in Orillia for five years. The town has two lakes; Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching. The Trans Canada Trail runs along Lake Couchiching. I purchased a park bench on it and attached a plaque on the back with an inscription in memory of my three children.
When I lived there I would often rollerblade and cycle along this trail and to my bench which faced a lovely bay. It is a very quiet, peaceful place. I would sit there to rest and remember my life with my children.
Whenever I return to visit with the friends from my time in Orillia, I always go to sit on my bench.
I remember attending a ceremony in Couchiching Park in the spring. We purchased beautiful geraniums there. A metal tag was attached to each flower with the name of our loved ones inscribed on it. The flower bed was packed with all these beautiful flowers including those bearing my children’s names.
Through this enormous park there were also many trees bearing plaques dedicated to loved ones. These living mementos lift our spirits while our financial contributions ensure the future of this lovely, restful place.
